August 2, 2024 - Repair/Construction Info & Updates*
Beloved Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Grace and Peace to you from our Lord, Jesus Christ, the source of our Hope and the very Cornerstone of the Church, Body of Christ!
As many of you know, we have been undergoing some major repairs at the church over past few weeks. Our roof was seventeen years old and in need of replacement. At about the same time, our Trustees found some exterior damage to the siding on the outside of the sanctuary and contracted to have the siding repaired. We are happy to report that the replacement of our roof is almost complete, and the work has been done with little or no surprises.
However, as our siding contractor removed the exterior siding, he discovered water and termite damage, termite activity and microbial growth. Upon further inspection, it was determined that errors may have been made during the original build with the placement of the siding and flashing on the building and since siding installation is not required to be inspected, the ramifications of their mistakes are just becoming fully known.
Based on reports from our contractor, it is possible that the siding on the entire exterior of our sanctuary building will need to be replaced, along with repair of the water and termite damage inside the exterior wall. Unfortunately, we won’t know the full extent of the damage until all the siding is removed and this
will be done on a section-by-section basis in order to not expose the entire building to weather.
At this point, we are in the process of working with our District Superintendent to make sure we are covering all aspects of this issue.
In anticipation of further construction around the sanctuary, we are preparing to relocate our Sunday services to the Chapel and multi-purpose room (MPR) for the duration of the work period. Beginning on Sunday, August 18, (Now Rescheduled on Sunday, August 25) our 8:00am Traditional service will be held in the Chapel. The 9:30am Contemporary and 11:00am Spirited Traditional services will be held at their scheduled times in the MPR.
The church offices will be relocated to rooms in the Education Building over the next week to ten days. Activities in the MPR that have been scheduled will be honored to the best of our abilities or relocated to another room in the building.
We covet your prayers for Ocean View United Methodist Church, the leadership, and the work to be done in the days to come.
While we have some challenging days ahead, we’re going to be okay as we are stronger together as a church family.
